John W. O’Halloran, PT, DPT, OCS, ATC (retired), CSCS (retired) cert MDT, is a licensed Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer with 30 years of experience in the field of rehabilitation. He is a board certified orthopaedic clinical specialist by the American Physical Therapy Association. He earned his post-professional Doctor of Physical Therapy from Temple University. Dr. O’Halloran is the sole owner of O’Halloran Rehabilitation, a division of O’Halloran Consulting, LLC. John was born in Boston, Massachusetts and currently resides in Summerfield, North Carolina. Dr. O’Halloran has also served as director of physical therapy/sports medicine at Southeastern Orthopedics in Greensboro, North Carolina as well as co-owner of GOSMC Properties, LLC. He has also worked in a variety of settings including universities and hospitals. Dr. O’Halloran is also a former orthopedic instructor at the physical therapy assistant program at Guilford Technical Community College in Greensboro, North Carolina. In 1999, he became credentialed with the McKenzie Institute in the mechanical diagnosis and treatment of the spine. Dr. O’Halloran is also a certified functional capacity evaluator in the Blankenship Method. His unique evaluation and treatment skills make him a sought after clinical instructor for physical therapy and athletic training topics. He has spoken both locally and internationally on topics such as sport specific rehabilitation of the shoulder, spine rehabilitation and treatment of foot and ankle injuries. Dr. O’Halloran has studied orthopedic and sports therapy abroad in Australia and New Zealand. His post graduate work has included manipulative therapy. His wide range of clinical experience and continued desire to further his education combined with advanced post graduate training allows him to provide his patients the most evidenced based rehabilitation and treat complex musculoskeletal conditions. John was awarded the 2014 recipient of the chapter’s Excellence in Clinical Practice Award by the North Carolina Physical Therapy Association. He was also awarded the North Carolina University Clinical Instructor of the year for 2015. Recently Dr. O’Halloran’s investigational work on the earlier facilitation of gait in the total Knee Arthroplasty patient has been cited in peer reviewed journal publication.

Trent Brown, MOT, OTR/L, BCG, is a practicing therapist in Utah and is 1 of 24 credential holders of a board certification in gerontology (BCG) from the AOTA. Trent has worked in transitional rehab, acute care, skilled nursing, and home health over the course of his career. His master’s thesis, “Performance of ADL’s, functional activity, mobility, and confidence levels following total hip arthroplasty”, was the launching pad for his future clinical focus and passion. Trent has centered his practice on research, exercise, and activity to promote safety and outcomes during functional mobility and activity with adult and geriatric populations.

Trent served as vice president of the Utah Occupational Therapy Association (UOTA), where he helped co-author the new Utah Occupational Therapy Practice Act. He has received APTA approval as a certified continuing education presenter, teaches at the University of Utah as an adjunct professor and was recently the requested keynote speaker at the annual UOTA conference. Additionally, he has provided continuing education courses for thousands of clinicians throughout the country. His lectures incorporate hands-on demonstration on a myriad of topics, including joint arthroplasty, core strengthening, documentation, aging, and fall reduction.

Jason Handschumacher, PT, DPT, OCS, is a licensed physical therapist with more than 16 years of clinical practice across all spectrums of rehabilitation and in some of the top facilities in the country. Dr. Handschumacher has experience in acute, sub-acute, inpatient rehab, home health, outpatient, and fitness practice settings. Currently, he is in practice with a hospital in the Charlotte metropolitan area, working in acute, sub-acute, and outpatient settings. Dr. Handschumacher also works daily in a clinic within the fitness center of an active adult community. He has been an invited lecturer for a variety of physical therapist educational programs, local organizations, and professional societies during his career. He has presented research findings related to non-operative management of the rotator cuff, injury prevention, and the uses of therapeutic taping for state Physical Therapy Associations, and nationally at the APTA Combined Sections Meeting. Dr. Handschumacher earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science from Miami University, and a Master of Physical Therapy degree and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Shenandoah University. In addition, he has been a Board Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist since 2006.
