MARINA NIZNIK, PH.D.

Marina Niznik, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist with over 15 years of experience providing psychological services in a school district of over 100,000 students in Houston, Texas, including crisis intervention, suicide postvention, direct counseling, psychological assessment, and consultation with administrators, teachers, special educators, nurses, social workers, and campus police.  In that role, Dr. Niznik also developed and conducted over forty trainings for the district on a variety of mental health topics, including suicide prevention, ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder, bipolar disorder, autism spectrum disorders, and intervention strategies for students with disabilities.  She recently co-authored several articles for the NASP Communiquè on the topics of adolescent suicide prevention in the context of social media, and suicide contagion, as well as two articles for an edited electronic publication on self-injury in adolescents for both the school and home setting.  Dr. Niznik recently relocated to California, where she serves as a mental health consultant to organizations, practitioners, and school districts.  She is an Advisory Board member for the JED Foundation Set-To-Go High School suicide prevention program and consults with them in the development of this initiative.  Dr. Niznik earned her doctoral degree in School Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, and an APA-accredited internship in the Houston area school district where she remained as a staff member in the Department of Psychological Services.
